Abart Summer Party
The last party of the season (and the last party I can visit before going to the US) is the famous Abart Summer Party. Starting at 6pm with outdoor bar, barbecue and pool it is THE party to visit for any Abart aficionado. After 10pm the free party continued indoors with a mix of hits from the various parties the Abart is hosting.
Most important of all it was an opportunity to meet people I haven't met in a while and to say goodbye to them as well.
I left the party at 3.30am to catch the last night train home and can say that I had a terrific time! :)Labels: abart, Music

Happy Birthday Abart!
Yesterday the Abart, my favorite club in Zürich, celebrated its 10 year anniversary. I've been frequenting the Abart for seven and a half years and I have many fond memories of cool concerts and parties there. The celebration took place in the Volkshaus in Zürich and featured 4 bands followed by a party with the Abart All Start DJs. First up were The Michelles from the UK and they were a decent opening act, with fun tunes well suited to shake and jump around. Next up were Snitch, a Swiss punk-rock band. They already played 5 years ago at the last Abart anniversary celebration and they were again a force to be reckoned with: Fast, hard and fun. Third in line were Ash from Ireland. At first I thought I had never heard anything from them before, but one or two songs were familiar from the Abart and from a computer game ^^. Anyways, they played a good show with lots of enthusiasm, however, for my taste they were too soft. Then it was finally time for the big Surprise Headliner, who was only revealed one day before the gig, Sportfreunde Stiller. Their gig was fantastic and the crowd loved them. And best of all, they played for almost 80 minutes. Unfortunately, the party that followed was a bit disappointing. The focus was heavily on brit-pop and -rock, which admittedly fit the four bands we heard tonight, but only represented a small part of the music normally played in the abart. Anyways, it was a fun evening and I'm looking forward to the 20 years celebration *g*Labels: abart, Concert, Music

Death Proof Party @ Abart, featuring The Tarantinos
A new year has started and so the time was ready for the (soon to be) traditional Tarantinos concert in the abart. The concert was embedded in a 'Death Proof' party to commemorate Quentin Tarantino's latest movie. The concert was a blast, The Tarantinos played all the greatest hits from Quentin Tarantino's movies (Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill, Jackie Brown and of course Death Proof) as well as reenacting a couple of key scenes creating a tremendous atmosphere. The audience called for several encores before the party could finally resume. The party itself was great fun as well, especially because many of the Rock N' Roll songs played reminded me of my youth ;). To make a long story short, I'm looking forward to the next gig by The Tarantinos!Labels: abart, Concert, Music

An (almost) perfect Saturday
Yesterday was one of those days that are almost perfect and great fun to experience.
First up was a board-game / karaoke afternoon at Melissa's place. There I've learned a couple of useful things during karaoke, besides the fact that I can't sing, but I already knew that before. 1. Don't try to sing a song from Papa Roach if you don't know the Rap-parts by heart. 2. Breaking the Habit on the other hand did work, if you ignore the fact that I almost lost my voice trying to get up high enough *g*. 3. Do sing classic pop songs such as "Always look at the bright side of Life" (from Life of Brian) and "Chim Chimeree" (from Marry Poppins), because they're just terrific fun :)
But it didn't end there. The evening continued in Lucerne. There I attended a concert by Anxiety, Mole and (did you guess already?) Labia. The Kulturzentrum Boa couldn't have been a bigger contrast to their last gig in Erstfeld. The room was tiny, as was the stage. However there were enough people to fill the room and they were intent on having a good time and were supporting the bands avidly. To the bands. First up was Anxiety from Langenthal. They describe themselves as Death Rock and, to be frank, for me it was too much Death and not enough Rock ;). Anyways they did a good job and the crowd was pleased. Next up was Labia, who played another fantastic hardcore set. To my great delight I wasn't the only guy in front of the stage head banging, that's quite a change to the last two gigs. So it is fair to say, that this was one of their best shows recently, they played very powerful and accurate. In addition they managed to transfer their energy and enthusiasm to the audience who gladly accepted and had a great time. Last to play were Mole from Basel. They presented a technically top notch performance and convinced me to buy their latest EP to appreciate their music more regularly :).
But the night didn't end there either. Next was a visit to the Abart. There the Masters of Rock party was just slowing down, by the time I arrived. It was 3am after all. Still the songs the dj's played were very cool and a couple of my favorites were among them. In addition I had time to chat with a couple of friends I haven't seen in a while.
And that's all folks. I got home extremely tired but very happy :).Labels: abart, Concert, Labia
