I've travelled to Koh Phi-Phi yesterday and made a trip to Hin Daeng/Hin Mueng in the south. There I saw a 6-7m long Whaleshark! Whoa, what an exiting trip. :-)

Live-Aboard Trip to the Similan Islands

Just returned from my 4days/4nights live-aboard trip to the Similan Islands (& Koh Tachai, Koh Bon, Richelieu Rock). It was terrific. The best dive of all was at Koh Bon: we saw several Manta Rays! They are so beautiful and graceful animals and with a width of approx 2 to 3 meters impressively big. We were just staying put in the water and there were Manta Rays to the left and right of us, it's difficult to guess how many, because they always disappeared in the dark and then (new ones) appeared again, I figure, that there were at least 5.
I will post a more detailed entry with pictures once I'm back.
Tomorrow I'll travel to Koh Phi-Phi to do some more diving in the south of the Andaman Sea.

Diving

I wanted to get into the water again, to familiarize myself with the equipment (especially the under-water camera) so I accompanied a group (4 people) that did a Discover Scuba Diving course. They weren't very comfortable under the water so we had to return to the surface twice. But I achived my goal, the camera was working and I got some good pictures. Towards the end we saw 3 cuttlefish (parents (who were mating) and a baby).
After we returned to shore, we saw a helicopter coming in low over the water, it dropped something (turned out to be a human), then a flare was ignited (where the guy was dropped) and the heli returned, this time even lower, to drop a scuba diver. The third time the heli lowered a rope and first the guy and afterwards the diver were picked up. I'm not sure wether the army or someone else was doing this training mission.
Now I'm writing this entry before going aboard a ship tonight for my 4days/4nights liveaboard trip to the Similan Islands... I'm extremly exited....

getting there

My plane left Zurich Airport at 12.15pm (CH/Time) and arrived 11 hours later in Singapore (06.15/local time). They had a really cool entertainment system on board. Movies, TV-Shows and Music on-demand. I took full advantage of that :-) and saw:
- Looney Toons: Back in Action
- The Rundown (CH-Title: Back to the Jungle)
- School of Rock
- Tais-Toi
- Runaway Jury
in between I slept about 2 hours.
In Singapore the question arose: what do I do with 5 hours spare time?
After exploring the terminal I went to the Swimming pool on the roof (Chf 10.- admission fee) to swim and read in the sun. Since I had no sunscreen I got a bit of a sunburn...
Afterwards it was jsut short 1h45min flight to Phuket. There I waited ages to get through Immigration, even my bag was at the baggage reclaim before I was :-).
I took a Minibus to Karon Beach Centre (since they had no clue where Ocean Lovers Dive Centre was). After wandering planlessly around for a couple of minutes I went into the next diveshop to ask for the way. Turned out that it was all the way on the other end of the beach next to the Dino Park (was there with my family 5 years ago), so I took a Tuk-Tuk.
After catching the last rays of sunlight I made myself ready for the evening.
First I explored the closer end of Kata Beach, before grabbing a Tuk-Tuk to Patong Beach Centre.
It took me close to 3 hours to explore the main shopping streets of Patong and I discovered that not much had changed in the last 5 years, most of the bars/shops/restaurants were still the same, however, as soon as you went farther away from the beach a lot of new developments have been added there.
Mostly I just walked past the shops because I saw nothing that I really liked. I stopped at a couple of places, which sold DVD's though... I only bought 21... they didn't have all that I wanted in stock... :-).

Just a couple of hours...

Yep, in 14 hours time I'll sit in my plane first to Singapur and then on to Phuket, Thailand. This time it's just for 2 weeks, so I won't travel around much and spend most of my time with diving :-D.
First I'll go on a Liveaboard-Diving-Trip to the Similian Islands for 4Days/4Nights and after that I'll go again to Koh Phi-Phi.

Long overdue

I've been extremely busy with school lately, but now I finally have something to show ;-).

I did a small homepage for one of my classes (Information Systems) and found some time to do a page of my own.
